Colours to look out for this season

When it comes to menswear, there’s no better reference point than London Men’s Fashion Week, the relatively young fashion event taking the fashion world by storm. The 2013 show displayed some beautiful uses of colour and pattern – take a look and see what you should be stocking up on this winter.

Grey on grey
A common theme alongside the heavy wools this year was the use of layered shades of grey, particularly on suits where it’s been used from head to toe. Our favourite was Bottega Veneta’s textured monochrome suit, offset by a glossy grey tie, or Wooyungmi’s casual light grey cardigan paired with a dark grey trouser suit. A matching blazer and trouser combo will be the ideal first step to achieving this look yourself.

While Alexander McQueen definitely brought Claret to everyone’s attention with the head-to-toe wrap-up leisure suit, splashes of the deep red shade were seen throughout the event. Prada matched it with teal for an extra-sharp smart casual outfit, while Armani opted for crushed velvet trousers alongside a shining grey-green. We recommend a claret jacket and tie for a little everyday style that’s on trend for winter.

Square print
From simple check to tartan, oversized prints were all the rage this year for creating a casual look that still made a statement. Hackett’s mustard yellow double-breasted jacket certainly made an impression, while Bottega Veneta stuck to greys with a simple chess-board style jumper. Check is an easy print to wear both smart and casually – square print on men’s formal shirts with a block-colour tie is a quick way to top fashion.
