Vivien Ong at Milan & Paris Fashion Week

Is this for real? I never thought a local born and bred model (not pan-asian, not mixed Singaporean with some white blood) will make a splash in the international catwalk calendar aka New York/London/Milan/Paris Fashion Weeks, but it looks like something great is about to happen here. Vivien Ong, who won The New Paper’s New Face in 2010 when she was an 18-year-old communications and information design student, is now a professional high fashion model signed to Beatrice in Milan and NEXT in Paris. She walked the John Richmond show and yesterday Anthony Vaccarello in Paris. Anthony Vaccarello is an up and coming designer who is featured in VOGUE US recently alongside Balmain and Altuzarra. His shows are always packed with well known models – Anja Rubik, Karlie Kloss, Arizona Muse are just a few names. Follow Vivien on twitter (@yaxenduff) as she tweets about her fashion week adventures, exciting to see a local model on the world stage!

I saw her when she won the S’pore New Paper’s New Face contest (via S’pore Stomp)and just felt back then the potential she had on the international market. I think she is unique and rare genre Tao Yakamoto & Wang Xiao. I love her face & body language. Refreshing to see short haired models on the runway too. So glad she’s on the scene now and wish her a great model run.

I love it how people were dismissing her winning from a local modelling competition for not being the typical next-door girl or cookie cutter & BAM! There she’s doing major shows in FWs like no one business lol. Of course the fashion people are going to hire her because of her atypical androgynous unique look which really fitted in well in the HF world. Looks like she’s having the final laugh at the end lol. Cheers!
