Natasha vs Lara

Raquel Zimmermann’s No.1 spot at the ultimately prestigious models.com ranking is about to be knocked off after a two year run. So the debate begins at TI as usual (remember those times, the arguments over Sasha vs Raquel?).

Like previously, the two models gunning for the No.1 spot are tricky… both of them are very different on their own. Lara has more zing , while Natasha has that commercial appeal.

Here’s a little low down/comparison on Natasha and Lara in the Vogue, runway, campaign field… the jury— you decide:

Vogue Paris: TIE

They are both VP regulars, but covers wise, Natasha has 5 covers, Lara Stone has only 3 but the Feb issue all dedicated to her can make up for anything.

Vogue Italia: LARA

Meisel clearly favours Lara from the begining, he shot her solo for the Dec 07′ cover, while Natasha only appeared in a group editorial recently, when she made her Vogue Italia debut.

Vogue US: TIE

They are both pretty ‘new’ to the US counterpart. Natasha had her second ever solo ed in the April issue, and in the latest issue, Lara made her debut appearance in editorial, with Morgan Freeman.

Other Vogues: NATASHA

Natasha get it because Vogue RUSSIA dedicated one entire issue to her plus 3 other covers. Unfortunately for Lara, there’s no Vogue Netherlands.

Muse of designer: LARA

Simply: Riccardo Tisci. That’s where all the Vogue Paris alliance started. He introduced Lara to Carine, and the rest is history. Natasha is not particularly, strongly linked to a certain designer.

Editorial: LARA

Lara is clearly an editorial darling and has worked with many top photographers. Over the year, she appeared in more editorials than Natasha, who tend to be among group editorials pretty often these days.

Runway: NATASHA

Lara was Calvin Klein Spring 07’s exclusive, plus she had records in opening Miu Miu, closing Prada. Natasha is hardly an exclusive runway model, but opens/closes practically the biggest shows and the most shows. Her winning point: that walk.

Campaigns: NATASHA

Need no explanations right? From Gucci to Nine West to Jil Sander, she can literally be the face of all brands, high or commercial fashion, luxury or minimalist… the list goes on. Moreover, Natasha repeats most of her campaigns. Lara’s biggest bookings so far remains multiple Givenchy campaigns, minor Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss ads— all in the same genre.

And is it a coincidence: they both did Jil Sander (for Fall 08′), the next season Spring 09′, Lara is out and Natasha did it all alone.

Body/image: LARA

Designers/photographers who are sick of ‘seeing too much bones’ are very likely to go for curvier models like Lara. Part of her success has to be credited to her famous body, and that she dares to bare (sometimes too much) but it makes her different from others. She has a unique personality, one of a kind, that i-D issue on her simply said it all. Natasha on the other hand, is skinny skinny skinny, like every other model.

Who should be No.1? More likely Natasha, quite surely actually. Wait and see the rankings… soon.

why is Raquel being knocked off the top?
although i prefer Lara, i think Nat deserves the top honors she’s been around for a while now.

Hm, this is tough. I love Lara, just because she has the exotic stunning beauty. Either way, I think we all know Natasha will nab this!

HOW THE HELL IS VOGUE PARIS A FUCKING TIE? THIS IS REDICULOUS. A DEDICATED OG ISSUE IS FAR BETTER THAT 5 COVERS, NOT EVEN INCLUSDING LARA’S 2 OTHERS OR THE CALENDAR COVER

AND LARA ONLY DOES THE BEST COVERS BY THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHERS. NONE OF THIS W KOREA BULL SHIT

  • EDRTHGSE

    opps, caps lock

but the mdc list is based on current work, not on a model’s entire history. the was you look at it gives natasha an obvious advantage because she has been doing hi fashion work for much longer than lara

  • kassie

Natasha, she is a more overall model, plus she’s been in Cannes this past week, so she be glamorous or sell a $90 nine west hand bag

Vogue US goes to Natasha. She already has 3 solo eds. 2 just this year and her Vogue US debut ed way back 2005 i think, plus 2 group eds summing it all up to 5.

Whereas Lara’s Vogue US eds are only 2, 1 group ed last May and her first solo this month.

I think the writer needs to research more on Natasha’s work

  • kirk

I also think Natasha did other VI eds other than the 1 pointed out by the writer

  • tpadm

MAYBE that’s why Raquel beat Sasha to No.1 previously— she had a longer history in high fashion work than Sasha because she’s been around since 2000. And Lara does the best covers, I 100% agree, and Natasha does have “little solo cover presence”, recently.

Natasha didn’t shoot any VI eds by MEISEL other than that one, even if I am wrong, I am sure she doesn’t have an OG cover like Lara.
