Curves are in
‘Sunday at the Park’ W September 09′, Lara Stone and Edita V ph by Mert & Marcus
With fashion week approaching, tons of new and old models are all flocking to New York in preparation for the one month show marathons. If the past editorial and campaign season might have anything to say about the current ‘trend’ in the modelling world, the folks behind the scene are starting to appreciate curves more.
So Alexandra Shulman fired a letter to ask designers to make sensible sample sizes and ‘called time on size zero’ back in June. Will that make an impact on the runways as much as the magazines pages thus far? Something noticeable about the models who are getting a lot of work— Lara Stone, Edita Vilkeviciute and Eniko Mihalik, they are the curvier models with real bodies. Eniko has apparently became the muse of Mario Sorrenti post Inez & Vinoodh (they’re on Anja now), and starred in most of his campaigns— MaxMara, Cesare Paciotti— and editorials in Vogue Paris and Vogue Italia. Lara Stone is bagging two French magazine covers for September and Edita has campaigns in Dolce & Gabbana and Blumarine, plus a Vogue Germany cover for August. Some others to mention— Anne V, Isabeli Fontana… Abbey Lee??? OK they are just everywhere, editors are making magazines pages ‘red hot’ literally, and photographers like Terry and Mario obviously love models with a bangin’ body.
I have not much opinions on too skinny models actually, because they do make photos look good, but on the runways, especially at Haute Couture shows, it is just not logical to put a $100 000 dress and pile on tons of blings on a skeletal body, the look is merely luxurious or expensive. Really looking forward to see ‘healthier’ runways in future.
