Valentino Retrospective: Past/Present/Future Exhibition
Singapore’s tourism and fashion industry has yet another achievement to be proud of – hosting the first ever ‘VALENTINO Retrospective: Past/Present/Future’ exhibition in Asia (third and last in the world, first in Paris and then in Brisbane). With one hundred exquisite haute couture masterpieces, ranging from founder Valentino Garavani’s early designs to present-day creations by current Valentino Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, the retrospective showcases Valentino’s approach using various themes from volume, animal prints and flowers to graphics, white and the signature colour – ‘Valentino red’.
The RTT team was more than thrilled to be invited to a media preview of the world of the legendary Italian fashion house, so here’s a sneak peek (and scroll down for details on how to get a pair of free tickets).
Famously known for his timeless and sophisticated designs, Valentino’s pieces were worn by captivating beauties of Hollywood and high societies like Cate Blanchett (above), Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Lucy Liu, Elizabeth Taylor and more.
If you have watched Matt Tyrnauer’s film ‘Valentino: The Last Emperor’, about the careers of haute couture designer Valentino Garavani and his business partner Giancarlo Giammetti, you will be familiar with the haute couture piece (above) from his Spring 2006 Couture Collection.
While you are there, be sure to take notice of this pink geometrical piece (above left), which is part of the inspiration behind the Singapore retrospective, designed by architect Christian Biecher. It is a pity that these one hundred jewels are displayed in minimalist glass cabinets (unlike the other retrospectives) which ‘enhance their universal artistic qualities’. Nevertheless, we were honoured to be able to admire them upclose.
Valentino Retrospective: Past/Present/Future is open daily from 11am – 8pm on Sundays to Thursdays and 11am – 11pm on Fridays, Saturdays, eve of public holidays and public holidays, and extended hours 11am – 11pm from 2 – 3 February 2011. Tickets can be purchase at SISTIC and RWS website.
RTT will be giving out tickets too. To win yourself a pair of tickets, simply email us with subject header ‘RTT VALENTINO TICKET GIVEAWAY’ at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and answer to this question:
