The Globes ’10

Written By on Jan 19th, 2010

Raining during red carpet must be a major turn off, think Cameron Diaz in a attention grabbing red McQueen number, only to spoil the picture holding a red and white umbrella (??!!!). But for the stars who carried it off, well they certainly aren’t human to stay glamourous and keep their spirits high in the drizzle.

There are quite a few surprise picks this year— Nina Ricci (Peter Coppings’ creations looked great on the red carpet), Christian Lacroix, Vionnet… just to name a few. There were 50 over stars who attended the Globes, but who doesn’t watch out for celebs in unconventional gowns? There are only so much Marchesas your eyes can take. Here are my favourite looks of the evening.

Carey Mulligan in Nina Ricci

January Jones in modified Lanvin

Diane Kruger in Christian Lacroix Spring ’09 couture

Maggie Gyllenhaal in RM by Roland Mouret

Jennifer Garner in Versace Aterlier

Julia Roberts in vintage Yves Saint Laurent (and a huge pendant, nice accessorizing)

See all red carpet photos here. Which are you faves?

My favorites are definitely (1) Julia Roberts in vintage YSL, paired with that Indian-inspired pendant, and (2) Diane Kruger in Lacroix couture. They both look totally fabulous but so different.

As for the Nina Ricci and Lanvin alterations, I prefer the runway versions. The Lanvin dress looks boring without the folds and pleasts from the runway look.

the first one.. but i’m sad the sheer part of the dress on the model’s chest was not worn on the runway.
