Want to know what happened exactly one week ago at The Meadow at Gardens by the Bay? Laneway Festival 2013, the indie music festival’s first stop kick started in Singapore. While some people feared for rain, that Saturday was particularly, exceptionally blazing hot, concert goers were almost grilled alive under the extreme heat. BUT the bands still got the crowd going. It started with some mellow pop from Kings of Convenience at noon and then to Polica‘s auto-tune goodness. Have you seen how chic front woman Channy Leaneagh was in the ombre dress and pixie hair cut?
Some of the highlights of the music fest: Of Monsters and Men, the icelandic band got everyone jumping when they played their hit “Little Talks” and they were the only band who did an encore! Nicolas Jaar was the surprise stand-out act, he performed the best alternative music with a slow tempo set that was ultra smooth. Kimbra came on during the evening when the sun went down and the crowd was in the mood to dance. The New Zealander is so eccentric she reminds people of an indie Lady Gaga. My personal favourite of the day was Natasha Khan (aka Bat for Lashes), it is The Act I had wanted to catch for the longest time since I first heard their debut album Fur and Gold. Although she did not perform some of her most popular tracks from the first two albums, she totally rocked the stage with her dance moves and pumping beats.
