Dr.Martens Spring Summer 2011 ‘DRIFT’ Launch
Say Goodbye (for now) to the signature air-cushioned soles and hardwearing leather of Dr. Martens’ shoes and Hello! to light yet durable canvas and suede uppers with thin rubber outsoles from their Spring Summer 2011 ‘DRIFT’ collection. A jewel in the endless streets of Little India, it was at Post-Museum where Dr. Martens’ first ever pop-up store was launched in Singapore.
We stepped into a small American town, inspired by the film ‘Dogville’ where stickers on the floor highlighted the route of a good ol’ rambler ended up in New York. White raw wooden plank walls, vintage wooden door frames, vintage brass bunk bed and clothing rails, together with acoustic instruments such as the trumpets, harmonica and guitars were displayed as part of the installation.
Inspired by the footwear aesthetics from the pop-up store, local designer, Jonathan Seow of Woods & Woods created a capsule collection exclusive to Singapore, ‘Blue Drifts’. The America in 1930 – 50s, during the Afro-Cuban, Jazz and CBGB (Country, Blue Grass and Blues) music movements have also influenced his collection. His pieces are mainly a little dressed down and cosy, reflecting the work attires and the American vintage work wear with old school wooden buttons.
Dr. Martens ‘DRIFT’ Pop-Up Store is located at Post-Museum, 107+109 Rowell Road (Nearest MRT Station: Farrer Park), from now till 13 March ’11, 3 – 830pm daily.
