Art Stage Singapore 2016
Highlights from the annual art fair and exhibition.
Art Stage Singapore, the long running exhibition that kick starts the year as one of the most anticipated annual events on the calendar, is back again this year with a strong line up of 143 galleries from 32 countries. As per past editions, majority of the exhibitors are Asian galleries, with around 75% of them coming from Asia-based cities this year.
The fair will keep up with their efforts to raise awareness for contemporary art in this region and create the path for the Southeast Asian art market to flourish. Several notable regional artists will be presenting works at the fair alongside the global big names. Hailing from Singapore are David Chan, Ruben Pang, Donna Ong, Jane Lee, Jimmy Ong and more. Other artists include Shooshie Sulaiman and Ali Nurazmal Yusoff from Malaysia, Mujahidin Nurrahman, Kinez Riza and Syagini Ratna Wulan from
Indonesia and Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan, Ronald Ventura and Raybeet Ramos from the Philippines.
Besides viewing the artwork and people watching at the Art Stage, the few must-see pieces that would surely be on every visitor’s instagram are mostly the cockroaches-lined text “HAPPY/LIFE/LOVE/FAITH” around the VIP area and the match stick men.
