Art Stage 2017
Southeast Asia’s flagship art fair returns for its 7th edition.
Happening from today 12th January till Sunday 15th January at the usual location in Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Art Stage 2017 will be presenting a diverse range of galleries from across Asia and the world featuring 131 exhibitors from 27 countries and 54 cities.
In tough economic times, art seems like an indulgence. What does it mean for the art market? Founder of Art Stage Lorenzo Rudolf comments, “We have to realise that we are living in dramatically challenging times. This means we can no longer sell art based only on price. We have to look at art for what it really is. In essence, it is a piece of culture.” The stronger push for in-depth content is a new direction for the long running flagship art exhibition, fringe activities like lectures and the Collectors’ Stage are positioning the fair beyond a market platform. If you have been a regular visitor to Art Stage since its inception, you would have noticed more and more artist from Southeast Asia and Singapore occupy a presence at the exhibition, making it a homegrown affair with a strong local connection.
