Top picks 2009
Written By Laila Lu on Dec 29th, 2009To choose a favourite out of each category is not an easy job, starting with a few choices, then narrowing down to just one. But there are several catergories that needs no pondering, or searching through the entire folder/archives to select a standout.
For as much as I can recall, these are my picks for 2009, write down yours in the comment section if you do have a favourite!
Campaign
Jil Sander Spring ’09
Natasha Poly ph by Willy Vanderperre
The stark contrast, the collection itself and casting Natasha made this campaign into perfection, and a memorable one. Each and every curve, detail and shadow contributes to one stunning image. If this is not art…
Cover
Vogue Italia June ’09
Meghan Collison ph by Steven Meisel
Meisel has a long history (20+ years) shooting for Vogue Italia, and there are months when he can still take us back with an unexpected theme and concept. I love this cover for the mood of it, and the border… it is not something you would see elsewhere.
Editorial
AnOther Spring ’09
Tilda Swinton ph by Craig McDean
What are the typical celebrity editorials? The type that sells? Think of the opposite. Tilda Swinton in a collection of young designer pieces, in minimal hair and makeup. With her statuesque height and poise, Tilda is working the silhouette of the pieces like no other.
Also, ‘Live from New York’
Freja Beha & Sasha ph by Mario Sorrenti for V Magazine.
Sorrenti has been exploring the use of extreme perspective, from campaigns (Bally, Paciotti) to editorials. Love the way he captured New York, from a different angle.
Collection – Womenswear
Dries van Noten Spring ’09
A combination of chic, sophistication and wearability. Plus the accessories — necklace, shades and shoes— are to die for as well. This year alone, the only collection that is ‘it’ for me.
Collection – menswear
HUGO Fall ’09
Bruno Pieters’ second last menswear collection before he left the company earlier this month. His crazy impeccable construction and sleek suits will be missed.
MODEL
Sigrid Agren
Just hope to see her making a comback appearance… soon!
