MUST TRY: DIY Juice Cleanse under $50
You don’t need to spend a bomb to clean yourself up. The juice cleanses available in the market right now can cost up to $500 for a 3 day cleanse and getting your health back on track shouldn’t be costly.
While researching on DIY juice cleanses, I chanced upon Jenna Marie’s recipe (find it here) and decided to use the same ingredients for my cleanse. It’s pretty simple, 3 fruit juice, 3 vegetable juice and a whole lot of discipline. You don’t need another person to tell you what good a juice cleanse can do for your body. While it sounds insane to survive 3 full days on just juices, it’s actually pretty filling as you are drinking so much liquid through out the whole day. Post-cleanse it will also clear up some of your cravings like sugar and fried food etc.
If you shop the ingredients in a local mart, it should cost around $50 or less per person, depending on the season. Here’s the list of fruits and vegetables to get, I added more because the original recipe only yields a very small amount of juices! It’s enough for 2 people for 3 days, tip number 1 is to do it with someone else so you can motivate each other.
– 6 oranges
– 6 pears
– 6 green apples
– 6 red apples
– 3 lemons
– 1 pineapple
– 3 cucumbers
– 4 bunch of celery
– 2 large carton of spinach
– 2 anaheim peppers
– 12 tomatoes
– 3 beetroots
– 4 whole carrots
– 1 fennel bulb
– 1 small ginger
– 12 bottles of mineral water
And the juices are…
Fruit juice #1: 2 oranges, 1 pear, 4 carrots, 1/2 beetroots
Fruit juice #2: 1/4 pineapple, spinach, 2 green apples
Fruit juice #3: 1/8 pineapple, 1 pear, 2 apples, 1/2 lemon, 1/2 ginger
Vegetable juice #1: 3 tomatoes, 8 carrots, 1/4 beetroot
Vegetable juice #2: 1 cucumber, 6 stalks of celery, 3 large handfuls of spinach, 1/2 anaheim pepper, 1 tomato
Vegetable juice #3: 1/3 fennel stalk and bulb, 1 bunch celery, 3 large handfuls of spinach, 1/4 lemon
Some things you should know:
– Spinach yields very very little juices, so feel free to buy more
– You can add water to the juices
– The best practice is to juice it fresh the night before the next day
– Always store in the juices in the fridge!
Have fun juicing!
