Vogue ITALIA

Laura Kampman by Steven Meisel. The rising Dutch model is also featured strongly in the current Balenciaga campaign. This cover proves her versatility as she transformed from an edgy punk girl in the campaign to a classy woman on the cover.

Vogue Paris

Daria Werbowy in Prada by Inez & Vinoodh. This is the Canadian model’s first Vogue Paris cover since Emmanuelle Alt took charge as editor-in-chief and she is starring in a 70 page editorial all to herself! Catherine McNeil is also making a comeback with a cowgirl-themed spread.

Vogue US

Taylor Swift by Mario Testino. In this issue the country songstress talks about being single and fashion week in New York – which she went in September. Lara Stone also stars in an editorial with actor Aaron Eckhart by Peter Lindberg called Love in the afternoon. There’s also Bare Minimum with Julia Frauche by Raymond Meier and Starlight Express with Karlie Kloss and Isabeli Fontana by David Sims.

Vogue UK

Arizona Muse in Prada by Patrick Demarchelier – see her bright and colorful editorial Little Miss Sunshine here – she does have a great smile and the images make you want Summer to arrive as soon as possible. Spring Forward is a mega editorial with eleven models photographed Daniel Jackson and styled by Francesca Burns in the latest Spring/Summer 2012 pieces.

Another Marilyn Monroe-inspired cover! This time it’s for Vogue Germany – Michelle Williams looks slightly more serious than her Vogue US October ’11 cover.

Wear Emerging Designers movement by BLUEPRINT

As you know BLUEPRINT – a fashion trade show based in Singapore – is all about getting emerging designers more opportunities, be it through media coverage or trade. BLUEPRINT have created a “Wear Emerging Designers” movement to involve more people, beyond those who are “in the know”.

There are so many huge brands and high street labels thriving, but there are also so many talented young designers who are struggling. It’s great that most of us already know some designers ourselves and so better understand their situation – it really is getting increasingly difficult for them to sustain themselves in a sea of well-financed commercial brands.

We reckon that it will make a difference, if all of us show our support for these emerging brands strongly, alongside the super-accessible H&Ms or ultra-covetable Celines. If you love emerging designers, want to keep creativity alive and enable them to keep designing, please show your support for them through this movement, by uploading the badge to your Facebook profile picture. Alternatively, if you wish to have this badge on your sidebar if you own a blog, you can email contact@rockthetrend.com for the code.

i-D “The Whatever The Weather” issue

Chinese New Year might be over but Brit mag i-D just churned out twelves CNY-themed covers for their pre-Spring issue, jumping on the bandwagon of the fashion-goes-east trend. Out of the twelve covers, four will be on newsstands and the other eight will appear online only. Chinese models, some unknown, some veteran (Liu Dan) are featured for this issue’s covers and Chen Man photographed all of them, with makeup by M.A.C.

I am IN LOVE with the images – all the colours, the makeup, the styling… simply visually stunning, especially Meng Lu and Xin Yuan’s. i-D has taken a pretty brave step in casting ALL Chinese models and one of them will no doubt be the next big thing. There are more and more Chinese models in the market these days, with Sui He and Xiao Wen Ju the latest to take the modeling industry by storm.

Marni x H&M in Vogue Russia

Want to see more looks from the H&M X Marni collaboration? The launch date is just five weeks away (8 March), and Vogue Russia has already done a feature on the collection. I don’t really know what the article is talking about but it’s great to have a clearer look at the prints and patterns from the collection. Plus the cute colorful wigs are really adorable and matching! I am waiting patiently for the full lookbook to be out…

“Time to Pretend” is the title for the latest Spring collection from local label AL&ALICIA. Why the name? The inspiration apparently centers around superheroes and marvel comics (see her moodboard here), it’s a way of saying don’t take fashion seriously and just have some fun.

There are a few super girlie dresses good for a casual day out, and also chic biker jackets good to add a bit of edge to an outfit. Judging from the lookbook, it looks like a really cute, wearable collection.

Do you know that the current Hermes creative director Christophe Lemaire has his own line too?

Front Row in Singapore stocks his collection, and the moment I saw this Spring/Summer 2011 top by Lemaire I totally fell in love with it. For some reason the mustard color and the prints remind me of Dries van Noten?

Debut as Givenchy Exclusive, check. Prada campaign by Meisel, check. Opening a couture show, check. Say hello to Katryn Kruger, the latest export from South Africa (same country as Behati Prinsloo and Candice Swanepoel!). Katryn opened the Valentino couture show yesterday and that was a perfect wrap up to an impressive couture week debut for the newbie. With her huge eyes, strong brows, bronze skin and sharp cheekbones, Katryn has the ideal supermodel package and face of a classic beauty like a certain Daria Werbowy, enough to catch the attention of casting directors and influential fashion figures like Steven Meisel – she is featured prominently in the latest Prada campaign. Watch out for Katryn in the upcoming show season!

The New Mix – Want to see Karl Lagerfeld DJ?

As you might have known, Karl by Karl Lagerfeld has just arrived at Net-A-Porter.com (by now at least 20% of the items are already sold out). The collection is relatively much more wearable and easier to purchase than his collaboration with Macy’s last year. The video for the collection – “The New Mix” – was unveiled yesterday and Karl played DJ to the models Anja Rubik, Saskia, Abbey Lee, Arizona Muse and Sui He. The video is created in collaboration with Barnaby Roper, a contributor at Show Studio.

It’s especially nice to see Sui He in the video. She looks fresh, possesses a certain killer, cool vibe with her strong stare and razor-sharp cheekbones that not all Chinese models have at the moment (have you seen her spread in Vogue Nippon by Terry Richardson?). Sui He is no doubt my current favorite model of the moment, hope to see her walking more shows during the Fall/Winter 12/13 show season!

Chanel Couture Spring/Summer 2012

I just got off a flight from Hong Kong and it was a super funny feeling seeing Karl’s setting for Chanel Couture Spring/Summer 2012 – on a faux air plane. Can you imagine being one of the audiences (or passenger) in the show? The coolest part is the setting came complete with a drinks cart, fake clouds that floated past the windows, blue carpeting patterned with Chanel’s iconic double-C logo and a cockpit door from which Karl Lagerfeld emerged at the end of the 61-look show for his bow. (Watch the full show here). The clothes are far from the typical air stewardess uniform, Karl apparently used a hundred and fifty shades of blue in this collection and that must be yet another highlight in this show.

Tisci Thinks… “When in doubt, wear red.”

It’s not the first time a designer sent a model in one color head to toe down the runway. Riccardo Tisci might just be catching on with the Chinese New Year fever by showing ALL red looks in his latest menswear collection for Givenchy during Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 12/13 for mens. Question is – would you wear that?

In the mean time, I would like to wish all of Rock The Trend’s readers a Happy Chinese New Year! Yes, all the best for the Year of the Dragon!
