Raf Simons going to Dior, going to do couture!

It’s official, as confirmed by both Suzy Menkes and Cathy Horyn, Raf Simons is going to Christian Dior. Raf’s first collection for Dior is scheduled for July at the Fall/Winter 12/13 haute couture shows (YES he’s going to do couture) and he will be keeping his eponymous menswear line.

Dior’s owner LVMH seems to be targeting the younger, trendier crowd these days. Antonio Marras was replaced at Kenzo for Carol Lim & Humberto Leon of Opening Ceremony and now Raf Simons, who’s got a pretty huge hipster following/fan base both for his work at Jil Sander and also his own line, is going to a classic legendary french house. LVMH’s biggest rival PPR has also hired Hedi Slimane (another hipster fave) to replace Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent.

Opening Ceremony, Raf Simons, Hedi Slimane – see a trend there? Everyone needs a bit of that cool factor…
