Mary Katrantzou wins Swiss Textiles Award

One of the most prestigious and coveted fashion awards in the industry, the Swiss Textiles Award, has crowned the 2010 winner – Mary Katrantzou, who specializes in digital prints.

The media was swooning over her stunning Spring/Summer 2011 collection based on housing interiors during London Fashion Week, it is no surprise that Katrantzou had managed to beat out strong competition from Jason Wu, Duro Olowu, Adam Kimmel, Juun J and Damir Doma. The London-based Greek-born designer was reportedly so overwhelmed that she cried backstage when the winner was announced.

The award gives a good healthy financial support for up-and-coming designers like Katrantzou, who now pockets €100,000 in prize money – €10,000 of which will be used to purchase Swiss textiles. Marios Schwab, Rodarte and Alexander Wang are past winners of the award.
