Jean Paul Gaultier says Au revoir! to Hermes
After seven years at the helm of Hermes, Jean Paul Gaultier is departing, leaving the creative director spot to Christopher Lemaire, formerly of Lacoste.
With Christopher in, the ready-to-wear department of the luxury house is certainly going for a more commercial direction. Gaultier, known as fashion’s enfant-terrible, is a couturier at heart, and his work for Hermes might have gained an avant-garde reputation which was championed by the media and editorial field, but not so much with shoppers reportedly.
The Spring 2011 collection to be shown in October will be Gaultier’s last for Hermes, while Christopher’s debut will be scheduled for Fall 2011, next March.
On another note, Gaultier recently presented a retrospective of his couture collection at Moscow’s Kazanskiy railway station. The interior of the venue + the clothes… stunning!
