Donna Karan Spring/Summer 2012, New York

One major trend so far this fashion week in New York has been on the whole tribal theme. At Donna Karan, it just feels perfect with all the earthy tones, bold strokes and prints inspired by Haitian artist Philippe Dodar.

I was back at the same warehouse location around Chelsea area where the DKNY show was held the day before, when first walked into the venue everybody’s eyes were drawn to the back immediately with the live model mannequins in full display dressed in the new casual luxe collection (picture above).

The show started with pumping tribal music and we got the message right on the first look with the whole warrior-chic makeup and hair. There are a few skin tight dresses – pretty surprising as Donna Karan’s clothes are known to be more loose fitting, drapery. The accessories are pretty cool – the bulky bangles, the necklaces made up of small wood pieces and even a wooden clutch the size of a fashion magazine. Overall it is a really lively, vibrant collection with a lot to look into.
