Costume Institute Gala 2011 – A McQueen tributeWritten By Laila Lu on Nov 11th, 2010
Vogue’s Costume Institue Gala has paid tribute to many different important people and subjects in the past, but nothing could be more appropriate and timely than organizing a McQueen tribute for next year’s Gala.
The MET ball will be held on May 2 next year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Alexander McQueen exhibit, with the title “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.”
This will be your chance to admire McQueen’s work upclose, with the museum gathering pieces from all sources – his graduate collection at Central St. Martins to items at Givenchy from his designing days there, his personal collections and more. The one dress that everyone is going anticipate seeing must be the famous Oyster dress from Spring/Summer 2003 (picture above).
The Gala chairs for this year will be PPR chief François-Henri Pinault and his wife Salma Hayek (who have been wearing a lot of McQueen lately), Colin Firth, Stella McCartney and Anna Wintour. Imagine what it would be like seeing gorgeous people in McQueen’s designs on the red carpet, and will Anna wear Chanel couture as per usual or McQueen for a change? We shall see.
