May is the new fashion month for Singapore! Two of the four major fashion events include Asia’s first international fashion trade platform Blueprint and fashion design competition Star Creation. Part of the aim to put Singapore on the spotlight as Asia’s fashion capital, these fashion events are definitely something we can all look forward to.

This time round, Blueprint has extended its duration to a four-day event which will be held from 19 – 22 May at the Marina Bay Sands Singapore. The first two days are the trade exhibition where more than 100 brands and 200 buyers will gather for the international launch of cruise collections from emerging designers all over the world. The next two days will then be opened to the public with seasonal and sample sales items, limited-edition apparel and accessories, and lifestyle design items up for grabs.

Doubling its entries to almost 150 from 11 countries, including Thailand, Singapore and Japan, and two new countries, Nepal and Myanmar, Star Creation serves as a crucial platform to help young designers launch their fashion careers. 12 finalists will face-off on the runway held at the Tent@Orchard at Ngee Ann City’s Civic Plaza on 11 May. Winners are entitled to $10,000 cash and also the opportunity of a one-year internship with leading fashion retailer F.J. Benjamin.

The three past winners (above, Daniel Ngoo from Malaysia) will also be showcasing their personal capsule collections, which they have been developing over the last year. Below are some of the winning designs by Audrey Lim from Singapore and Kit Miao from China. Audrey’s biker inspiration and Kit’s modern bohemian style both show originality and sophistication.

Both Blueprint and Star Creation are part of Asia Fashion Exchange, a joint initiative involving the Textile and Fashion Federation of Singapore (TaFf), Mercury Marketing and Communications and government agencies. International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, SPRING Singapore and the Singapore Tourism Board.
