Transition mode

As you might have learnt from the rumour mill, a major shift is happening in the New York modeling scene (more of behind the scene actually), and apparently it involves FORD, Supreme and Women. The change is happening today— the certain important figure’s new regime begins, and for the upcoming weeks when the bookers and agents go about their usual post-fashion week business, it is turning to be a significantly more crucial period than ever.

On another note, while the #1 catwalker has not been unveiled yet, Jacquelyn Jablonski @ FORD (and RTT current favourite model of the moment) might top the list with her 74 shows. She skipped London by the way.

Lais Riberio @ Women

Michael-Kors-Backstage09 versacefw10laisribeiro

Truly sensation newcomer who transitioned well from capital to capital. After walking a whooping 26 shows in her country’s fashion week, she made her mark in New York walking for Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Proenza Sschouler, and judging by her showlist in Milan so far — Versace, Bottega Veneta and Gucci (today in 7 hours time), she is cementing her status as the one to watch this season. Lais really stood out on the Versace runway, no?

Watch these faces: Kirsi, Fei Fei

London Fashion Week is a good time to keep track of up and coming new faces, or get a hint of who might do well in Milan and Paris. Starting off with Kirsi Pyhonen, a fresh face from Finland who opened and closed Christopher Kane Fall ‘10, and killing many other major London shows with her tall frame (182cm, LEGS).

Next is Sun Fei Fei, finalist of Elite Model Look (there’s this thing about the competition, that the runners-up tend to be really successful, look at Constance Jablonski and Eniko Mihalik), best remembered from the Chanel Paris-Shang Hai show. She walked Marios Schwab, Christopher Kane, Jaeger, Vivienne Westwood red label so far. While Liu Wen is absent in London, Sun Fei Fei, Hyoni Kang, Tao Okamoto and Shu Pei have been the to-go asian faces on the runways.

Smalls

Joan Smalls.

Every successful model has a great rise-to-fame story to tell, whether it’s hardwork, breakthrough or just pure luck. For Joan, after the recent couture season’s gig as a Givency exclusive, she has been walking almost every major New York show so far— Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Alexander Wang, DVF… just to name a few. Hopefully the notoriously difficult Milan will be good to her, she has that Liya Kebede vibe that’s gonna bring her far.

Five faces-to-watch for Fall ‘10

posted on February 9th, 2010 · by Laila Lu · Add comments?

Ylonka Verheul@ FORD

I have mentioned her in my Spring ‘10 to-watch list previously, but the lanky Dutchie is getting all the right pre-season buzz this time round. Ylonka did Preen for Pre-fall.

Nicole Hofman @ Trump

Any new girl with an impressive debut season in Europe is always a good catch. Spring ‘10 Nicole walked Prada (exclusive), Givenchy, Lanvin and Yves Saint Laurent, also to note: Prada pre-fall.

Sedene Blake @ New York Models

Sedene did Calvin Klein Pre-fall… remember how they brought up Lyndsey Scott?

Lucia Jonova @IMG

Simply unforgettable.

Marlena Szoka @ FORD

Was featured as a newly spotted newcomer right here at RTT nearly a year ago, after seeing her at Kenzo. Marlena has since rocked her first couture season walking for Chanel, Valentino and Elie Saab last month.
