March 2010 magazine covers

Vogue Italia

Freja finally landed her first Vogue Italia cover while working a lot with Steven Meisel recently after a long dry spell. She first appeared in the huge runway editorial in the January main story, then a single shot in an editorial from Vogue US March ‘10, and slowly mounting to this major cover for VI. The lip liner might be a bit distracting, but if it sets people’s tongues wagging then that’s publicity isn’t it? Plus it’s great to see the more feminine side of Freja, that proves her versatility.

Vogue Paris

Rose Cordero ph by Mert & Marcus. This marks her first ever Vogue cover (check out the main editorial here) and also, the first Vogue Paris cover to feature a solo black model since Liya Kebede in 2002. Rose has been booking a lot of good shows this season (she did Prada Fall ‘10), thanks to the timely unveiling of the cover.

Vogue US

Tina Fey in Prada, ph by Mario Testino.

Vogue UK

Alexa Chung ph by Alasdair McLellan, time to put one of UK’s most sought after rising style icon in the cover spotlight.

Vogue Germany

Frida Gustavsson on her first Vogue cover. It’s a pity that her face can’t be seen clearly, but you can easily recognize her by the mole on her cheek. The cover looks very chic and a little bit vintage-y, simply eye-catching.

Vogue España

Anja Rubik ph by Patrick Demarchelier

Vogue Russia

Abbey Lee ph by Josh Olins. After two va-va-voom covers from Vogue Russia (Poly, Magda), they turned to the sweeter side of things with pink fonts and florals.

Vogue China

Du Juan, Anna Jagodzinska, Lily Donaldson, Constance Jablonski, Liu Wen and Karlie Kloss, all dressed in Chanel, ph by Patrick Demarchelier. The cover shares an uncanny resemblance with Vogue US’s May 2009 models cover.

Vogue Nippon

Isabeli Fontana ph by Inez & Vinoodh. The cover shot looks as if it came straight out of the Moschino Spring ‘10 campaign, also by the the same photographers.

Vogue Korea

Korean actress Kim Tae-hee by Oh Jung-seok

Vogue Taiwan

Vogue Australia

Abbey Lee ph by Max Doyle. The cover might not be exactly high fashion-y but it screams summer all over, and the colour combination is lovely. Abbey is also last year’s March issue’s cover model for Aussie Vogue, they sure love her.

Vogue Portugal

After Vogue Korea and Greece reprinted a shot from the ‘Jacket of all trades editorial from Vogue US Jan ‘10 for their February covers, Portugal is joining the bandwagon. A Vogue US editorial that turned triple-cover? Has this happened before?

Vogue Turkey

The very first edition of Vogue Turkey — Jessica Stam ph by Patrick Demarchelier. Conde Nast might have launched this to compete with Harper’s Bazaar Dubai in the Eurasian/middle east market.

Vogue Greece

10th anniversay issue, the covers are epic, and very Grecian.

Vogue Brasil

Barbara Berger

Numéro France

Edita Vilkeviciute, a total seductress in Dior, ph by Sølve Sundsbø.

Numéro Tokyo

Maryna Linchuk

W

Megan Fox ph by Craig McDean

W Korea

Celebrating 5th anniversary with Anja Rubik, Angela Lindvall and Karlie Kloss all in Louis Vuitton, each with a cover and an individual story.

Interview

Lara Stone ph by Mert & Marcus. More talks about her body in the issue.

Dazed & Confused

Australian actress and title lead in Alice in the Wonderland —Mia Wasikowska ph by Laurence Passera. While her Teen Vogue cover is cuter, this screams fantasy with the blue hair.

Seeing double

The new Vogue China March 10′ cover

Shares an uncanny resemblance with this Vogue US May ‘09 cover shot by Steven Meisel.

To note:

— Anna Jagodzinska is in the exact same position, same pose, same expression.

— the three models on each cover shot are the same brunette, blonde, blonde. (asian replace black)

— they are being shot in the same position, two models on top, one below, half body.

— also a group of mixed models from veterans to rising stars, and different countries.

On another note, this is Liu Wen first Vogue China cover. She deserves the spot even though she is at the far end. Maybe one day, a solo cover will be in the works.

* List to be updated

Highlights:

  • It will be the first time that Alexander McQueen is going to have an ad campaign and he has chosen fellow brit Alice Gibb, who opened his Spring 08′ show, as the model.
  • After losing Chloe S/S 08′ to Craig McDean, Inez & Vinoodh has lost another— Valentino, the job goes to Peter Lindberg. (Check out ’seeing double’)
  • Both Isabeli Fontana and Natasha Poly have landed 5 major campaigns with all five different photographers, the most out of all other models.
  • Balenciaga’s campaign would be fronted by a celebrity (Charlotte Gainsbourg), for the second time running.
  • Bulgari has dropped Stam, fellow canadian Julia Dunstall replaces her. Karlie Kloss is up for Bulgari fragrance.
  • While Nicole Kidman is going to be a mum, Audrey Tautou will be the new face of the iconic Chanel No.5 fragrance.
  • Best newcomer: Aline Weber— Benetton, D&G, M Missoni, Moschino
  • Toni Garrn, the German stunner who has been Calvin Klein’s world exclusive for two straight seasons, is apparently not doing well in the editorial market. Besides not getting enough print work/covers, she was dropped from being the face of Calvin Klein’s main line to cK jeans and also fronting Jill Stuart, who counts Lindsay Lohan as its past campaign stars.

The end of Miu Miu menswear

posted on January 30th, 2008 · by Laila Lu · comments (5)

Miu Miu has discontinued its menswear line to focus on strengthening its women’s business, whose sales have more than doubled in two years, hitting $297 million in 2007. The spring 2008 men’s collection will be the last to be manufactured and sold by the Prada-owned brand” – quote from wwd

The last— SS08

Surprising? I don’t really look at Miu Miu menswear anyway…
But now I have even more expectations for every Miu Miu show already. After seeing that ultra feminine Prada menswear Fall 08′ collection, looks like Miuccia is trying to hint that she is really into womenswear. So, good for her.

Seeing double

Seems like Inez & Vinoodh love to shoot Shalom Harlow’s face getting real close to a totally nonchalant Anja Rubik.
