I haven’t been talking about models at NYFW much but I am feeling pretty dazed by the pool of new girls. In past seasons, it is always the Prada exclusives that have never walked NY taking the shows by storm (think SS08, when Anabela & Irina K were newcomers). But right now, there are countless up-and-coming models.
I thought that Liu Wen would be the asian model to watch after all her couture shows but then Hyoni Kang, the winner of Ford Models 2008 seems to be doing very well too. Toni Garrn’s career was thought to be over when she was ‘demoted’ from Calvin Klein to CK jeans, but so far she has opened two shows already. At Marc Jacobs, an unknown face opened the show. There are alot more, the new ‘it’ black models and the trio of Vogue’s ‘Models Live’… Some others are not even walking major shows despite all the hoopla, think Karmen Pedaru, the Yves Saint Laurent Fall 08 opener and Viktoriya, the latest Vogue Italia cover girl.
I wonder how style.com is going to fit in just 10 girls for the top newcomers list. But wait till you get to Milan and Paris, things are going to get even messier when ANNA SELEZNEVA, and runway pros like Tanya D and Mariacarla appear…

I think the unknown at MJ isn`t really a model, more like a character meant to convey a mood. I think I`ve seen her before somewhere…
But it`s great to see new faces! I`ve gotten sick to death with so many of the older ones: Maryna, Coco, Stam, Magdalena etc…
You need the newbies to liven things up a bit.
Well for now everyone knows that Anna S is on a CK exclusive and she will go down the catwalk, whats better than a presence at the CK show in NY? Its amazing .
The girl who opened MJ’s show was actually his long time fitting model. She’s actually very old (my modeling standard) and isn’t very pretty. But she has the body of most young girls so they use her to fit the clothes for the show.
Liu Wen came out of nowhere last season and did very well in Europe. This is her first season in NYC and looked like she’s taking it by storm too.
