The burst of colours & floral prints has a vintage and country feel, ultra feminine & ladylike. It’s really unexpected from Miuccia Prada. Her designs are more upbeat and modern nowadays but this resort collection is a throwback to the 80s’. On the other hand, the key looks are so not for the urban women (think walking in New York Times Square in one of those floral dresses) but it’s more suitable for travelling? Shopping? Or just a visit to a friend’s weekend party.
Seriously, I wouldn’t mind getting any of those pieces and just take a walk at a nearby park right now.

Kate Moss for Topshop: who’s wearing it?

posted on June 17th, 2007 · by Laila Lu · comments (2)

The most talked-about celeb collection of the year has just gotten a few more fans in…

Leggy blonde Cameron Diaz donned the same black halter mini that Kate Moss modelled on UK Vogue’s April issue at her Madrid photocall for Shrek 3.

Selma Blair wore this very popular white summer dress waaaaaaay before it’s available in US Barneys for sale. How did she get it so fast? Apparently, it was a gift from Kate Moss herself to the actress!

Fall/Winter 07/08 fashion ad campaigns

posted on June 6th, 2007 · by Laila Lu · comments (9)

( For more FW0708 fashion ad campaigns : II, III, IV, V, VI)

They are all going to appear on the pages of your favourite fashion magazine soon but here is a sneak peek of who and who is fronting which coveted campaigns for the Fall/Winter 07/08 collections.

Suvi Koponen, who famously opened the Prada SS07 show, replaced the pregnant Natalia Vodianova in Calvin Klein’s new ads.

No Kate Moss! but it’s another bevy of English belles headlining the Burberry ad campaign. This edgy rock-star look suits Agyness Deyn so well and I think she might just have taken over from Kate Moss as the new model of the moment in UK.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
this is so refreshing and artistic! I’ve gotten really bored over the last few Longchamp ads featuring a naked Kate Moss who posed with their bags covering her bits. What’s with ad campaigns selling sex?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Fresh faced up-and-coming models Irina Kulikova, Denisa Dvorakova and Kasia Struss are photographed by Steven Meisel for the Pringle of Scotland ad. Classy but youthful.

Jessica Stam replaces Angela Lindvall for DKNY. The company spokesperson said that “It was important to shoot this at night to capture the lights, energy, excitement and intrigue of ‘New York Nights,”

After numerous ads featuring the classy Anja Rubik, Sienna Miller became the first celebrity ad campaign star for Tod’s. You’ve got to check out this collection, it is Derek Lam’s first time designing for this label. He won the ‘Accessory Designer of the Year’ award from CFDA recently.

The new Escada campaign features a relatively unknown model, Elin Skoghagen (???). It looks almost exactly like the previous season’s campaign– the vibe of urban city night as background. I prefer Inguna Butane as the model though.

Christian Dior featuring Jessica Stam.

Dior’s Fall/Winter 07/08 collection is really striking with its vibrant colours. This campaign is as bold as the collection and it’s very different from last season’s boring washed-out one featuring Gemma Ward. L-O-V-E IT.

After Gisele Bundchen, another supermodel ,Kate Moss, does it for Roberto Cavalli. Her beau, Pete Doherty, will star in Roberto Cavalli’s menswear campaign as shown here…

I can’t help but realize how commercial this label has turned.

Stella McCartney featuring Amber Valetta. There’s not much change to the usual cut-out visual sort of campaign that Stella’s been going for. I think these contrasting images tell a lot of things.

Lindsay Lohan, who had long wanted to be a Chanel muse, scored another high profile campaign. After Miu Miu ,she’s been booked by Jil Stuart.

I prefer this season’s Louis Vuitton ads to the last’s. Scarlett Johansson looks more like herself here and it seems there’s more creativity injected into this campaign.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Natasha Poly for Gucci. Watch out for that indy bag! It’s been touted as the next ‘it’ bag to go crazy for.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
This Donna Karan ad is my favourite of all so far. It really catches the vibe of urban New York and Catherine McNeil has the looks that’s so suited for this campaign. Love it!

Gisele Bundchen and Jamie Dornan for Aquascutum. That lucky guy has been in a few campaigns with supermodels lately. He was featured in a steamy campaign with Kate Moss for Calvin Klein jeans and now with Gisele…

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
this is not the Chloe ad. Shalom Harlow, Freja Beha Erichsen and Anja Rubik are shooting the new Chloe ad in Paris. Anja Rubik’s new blonde crop is chic!

Ralph Lauren became the biggest winner of the night taking home the honour for ‘Menswear Designer of the Year’ and the first-ever ‘American Fashion Legend Award’ which was presented by Oprah Winfrey. The very coveted award for ‘Womenswear Designer of the Year’ was a tie between Oscar De La Renta and Proenza Schouler. What a twist, that left Marc Jacobs empty-handed despite being nominated for two categories.

young asian rising talents to look out for: Jason Wu and Alexander Wang. By the way, did you realize that the fashion design circuit in New York is nuturing more and more asian talents? And they’re mostly males instead of females like the veterans Anna Sui and Vera Wang?

and lastly, how can a fashion event in New York happen without the ‘legendary’ Vogue Editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour (in Proenza Schouler) ?
