Ralph Lauren became the biggest winner of the night taking home the honour for ‘Menswear Designer of the Year’ and the first-ever ‘American Fashion Legend Award’ which was presented by Oprah Winfrey. The very coveted award for ‘Womenswear Designer of the Year’ was a tie between Oscar De La Renta and Proenza Schouler. What a twist, that left Marc Jacobs empty-handed despite being nominated for two categories.

Rag & Bone’s Marcus Wainwright and David Neville was given the ‘Swarovski Award for Menswear’ while the heavily pregnant Jessie Randall of Loeffler Randall won the ‘Swarovski Award for Accessory Design’.

Pierre Cardin was honoured as winner of the International Award

This has to be the happiest night for Ralph Lauren, seen here with Oprah Winfrey, for bagging two awards in the ceremony

a slimmed down Marc Jacobs, looking grumpy on the red carpet…perhaps he knew that he was not going to win anything?

the CFDA president, Diane Von Furstenburg and Vera Wang (right), both in their own designs

other veterans, Calvin Klein (left) and Mark Badgley and John Mischka of Badgley Mischka

Michael Kors (far left) with Heidi Klum and Debra Messing, both in his designs

Donna Karan arrived with her look-a-like daughter Gaby Karan.

Zac Posen and brit supermodel Karen Elson

young asian rising talents to look out for: Jason Wu and Alexander Wang. By the way, did you realize that the fashion design circuit in New York is nuturing more and more asian talents? And they’re mostly males instead of females like the veterans Anna Sui and Vera Wang?

well, this looks awfully bizarre… Zang Toi with Miss USA Rachel Smith in his design.

supermodels who attended the ceremony (from left) Lily Cole in Valentino, Natasha Poly in Phi and Hilary Rhoda in Marchesa.

of course there was a bevy of celebs who turned up: (from left) Kate Bosworth in Proenza Schouler, Claire Dane in Peter Som, Alicia Keys and Eva Mendes both in Calvin Klein collection

and lastly, how can a fashion event in New York happen without the ‘legendary’ Vogue Editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour (in Proenza Schouler) ?
